2008
We stayed 15-18 October and thoroughly enjoyed our three nights.

Check in was relatively efficient, except they didn’t know how to deal with a foreigner’s Spanish residency card! Just as well we speak good Spanish although most of the staff spoke good English we found it easier to get things done.

The rooms were not huge but nice. Out bathroom had a normal bath (with shower over it) but in my parents room there was a large walk in hydro massage shower. So if you have a preference for either make sure you specify when you make the reservation.

We also made use of the complimentary Wi-Fi internet access from our room which is much better than many “better” hotels we’ve stayed in.

The only problem in both rooms was the heat. We were having a hot spell of weather then and with the Air Conditioning control panel switched on it had little affect and was rather noisy. Given the hotels location above the main railway station it really meant opening the window was impractical. So one night we roasted and another night we were kept awake by the noise. Unlike many other Spanish hotels there was very little sound from the corridors which were fully carpeted.

The location of the hotel was fine and although not in the historic centre was about 10-15 mins walk from the centre. So if you’ve spent the whole day sight seeing it was a bit more inconvenient to head back into the centre where there are more restaurants and night life, although we found an excellent Galician restaurant (Gallego Candamil) within a 5 minute walk on Calle Cuarteles 15 -. That’s heading back on the main road from the station towards the historic centre and quite close to the river. It was very popular with the locals and we enjoyed it so much we went back on our last night. Our car stayed firmly in the underground car park which is for the station and the hotel has a discounted rate – 14 Euros for 24 hours.

Breakfast was the high light of the hotel – with an amazing array of pastries and breads, cheesecake, the usual hot bacon, sausages, scrambled & fried eggs, smoked salon, fresh fruits, hams and cured meats and cheese. An excellent choice and also a very good standard and frequently restocked. Even the coffee was good plus an espresso machine and freshly squeezed orange juice plus other types of juice. The hotel restaurant menu looked lovely although we didn’t eat there.

The style of the hotel is ultra modern with a few quirky touches in the public areas including a slide (toboggan) from the first floor to reception. I wasn’t convinced you were allowed to use it but saw some children having fun on our second morning!

Overall excellent value for money (we paid 90 Euros per night per room, including the excellent buffet breakfast and all taxes etc) – we would go back if in Malaga again.

Returned yesterday from a short trip to Spain, one night in Malaga at the Barceló Hotel.
Arrived by plane at Malaga airport, 1.20 Euros by train to the final station, Maria Zambrano, where the hotel is located.
Impressive, you walk from the platforms to the station, turn right
and enter the hotel area.
No dirty station feeling around, all new built, spacious and airy, lots of shops and restaurants, great location.
Easy to walk to the old town. Some 15 minutes to the new Picasso Museum. Construction work outside, but no problem and also nearly no noise from the trains.
As usual, I've asked for the top floor, eight storeys here, seven was available with a bathtub. Stylish designed, flat screen TV, working station, spacious and clean.
Also the bathroom spacious and not over designed equipment.
A large breakfast buffet, all what I've needed early in the morning.
Unbelievable, leaving the room 08.40 am and sitting in my train's seat, after security and ticket check not five minutes later,
really recommendable.

Myself and my partner had 1 night in this hotel before heading off to see friends in Granada. The hotel is conveniently located above the main rail terminal and is very easily accessible from the airport.

The hotel looks great once inside the reception and the hotel room was of a good size. Bathroom was amazing - one of the best showers I have ever used. The rooms have black out blinds which is great for those of you who are light sleepers - or want a long lie-in!

Breakfast is a must - a great selection of both hot and cold foods, good coffee and plenty of fresh fruit, pastries, hot buffet style delights and 5/6 fresh juices to choose from
