Punta Umbría is a little fishing village in the
south-west of Andalucía, on the Costa de la Luz,
with direct access by dual carriageway,
Just 15 kilometres away from the Huelva city railway
station.
The nearest international airports are Seville airport
(120 km away) and Faro airport (135 km away).
The
hotel is about five years old and the design is one of the best in the
package field. The sandy beach is clean and just goes for miles. The rooms
are certainly up to four star standard and the staff are very helpful. The
food is excellent and anyone who cannot find something he likes from the
vast choice must just be "impossible". The location is right on the beach
but I understand this particular hotel is closing next year for upgrading to
five star. Other hotels close by are being built and are likely to be
finished late next year. If you want a quiet holiday in an excellent hotel I
would advise that you go sooner rather than later- before the renovations
start.
2008
Myself
and my partner spent one week all inclusive at the Barcelo in Punta Umbria,
in June 2008 from the moment we arrived at the hotel, the staff were
exceptionally pleasant and helpful, even the staff who could not speak
English endeavoured to make themselves understood.
The hotel itself was an absolute gem, sheer heaven on earth describes seven
wonderful days and nights of perfect peace and relaxation, the reason why we
choose the resort and hotel, it certainly lived up to our expectations (and
more)
I would certainly return sooner rather than later
2008
We are both in our mid
thirties and wanted a holiday that wasn't very British and was fairly quiet.
We had been to Seville the year before and knew that the weather in
Andalucia would be good in May. We caught a flight from Leeds to Faro and
spent a couple of days in Portugal and then drove up to Spain for eight
days. We also booked the hotel stay in Spain directly though Barcelo on a
half board basis (the majority of the hotel were on all inc basis). Half
board includes breakfast and either lunch or dinner each day. You do not
have to tell them when you decide to have lunch instead of dinner you just
go in the buffet restaurant as and when you want. The food was lovely each
day with wide range of choice (three courses every day does not do well for
the waist line). As we were on half board we had to pay for our drinks, a
large glass of wine in the bar was about 1.80 euros and a large beer about
2.20 euros, bottles of wine were 7-15 euros. small bottles of water were
1.40euros, if you just walked down the road running alongside the beach you
will find vending machines at a newsagents where you can get 1.5l water for
1 euro. A few times we ate out and there is a lovely fish restaurant right
next to the hotel, very Spanish which was nice but you would struggle to
order correctly if they didn't have an English menu (as we found out!). I do
not like seafood but this restaurant also did meat dishes which were
fantastic. We did struggle to find a restaurant open in the evening in Punta
Umbria town but I think that is because it is early on in the season. I
would definitely recommend this area of Spain and especially the hotel it
was clean, tidy and friendly the staff were lovely and made the whole stay
very enjoyable

I stayed
at the Barcelo Punta Umbria with my daughter and mother for 5 nights just
before Easter. It's a nice looking hotel, right on the long sandy beach.
Our room was large, with 2 single beds and a sitting area (including a sofa
bed). The only draw back was that our room did not have a balcony.
We stayed half board (you can choose between lunch or dinner on a daily
basis). The food was extremely good, with plenty of choice.
The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful.
I will certainly be returning!
